Web players

There are many different web players i.e. the BBC iplayer and YouTube, they all have different bit rates, these are the number of bits that are conveyed or processed per unit of time, this determines how fast the video will download from the server to your computer. The BBC iplayer has a veriable bit rate this means that it varies with how many people are on the iplay, i.e. slower or faster.

kiosk

An Interactive kiosk is a computer terminal that provides information access via electronic methods. Most kiosks provide unattended access to web applications such as HR, Benefits, Informational and Loyalty.
Early interation interactive kiosks sometimes resembled
telephone booths, but can also be used while sitting on a bench or chair. Interactive kiosks are typically placed in high foot traffic settings such as hotel lobbies or airports.
Integration of technology allows kiosks to perform a wide range of functions, evolving into
self-service kiosks. For example, kiosks may enable users to enter a public utility bill account number in order to perform an online transaction, or collect cash in exchange for merchandise. Customised components such as coin hoppers, bill acceptors, card readers and thermal printers enable kiosks to meet the owner's specialised needs.

Current uses of vidio in interactive media

DVD video- this is a consumer video format used to store digital video on DVD Roms discs. Discs that use this formate need a DVD drive and an MPEG-2 decorder.

The following formats are allowed for MPEG-2 video:
At 25
fps (usually used in regions where PAL is standard):
720 × 576 pixels MPEG-2 (Called full
D1)
704 × 576 pixels MPEG-2
352 × 576 pixels MPEG-2 (Called Half-D1, same as the
China Video Disc standard)
352 × 288 pixels MPEG-2
At 29.97 or 23.976 fps (usually used in regions where
NTSC is standard):
720 × 480 pixels MPEG-2 (Called full
D1)
704 × 480 pixels MPEG-2
352 × 480 pixels MPEG-2 (Called Half-D1, same as the
China Video Disc standard)
352 × 240 pixels MPEG-2
The following formats are allowed for MPEG-1 video:
352 × 288 pixels MPEG-1 at 25 fps (Same as the
VCD Standard)
352 × 240 pixels MPEG-1 at 29.97 fps (Same as the
VCD Standard)

Banner ads

Banner ads are simply advertisements when you are browsing the web these could be anywhere,
most of the time is you search something on the web and you will have advertisments come up for what you would be looking for on the web, i.e. if you put steroied on google search it will come up with advertisments for steroieds.

Touch screen kiosks

Touch screen kiosks are mostly found in museums or learning centers these help people to learn information about where they are or about information about an object they may be looking at in the museum or learning center.

Within game (movies)

In some games i.e. Tomb Raider and grand theft auto 4 there are movie clips in the games themselves, these are there to show how the story is progressing and also maybe for hints.
Most start at the beggining of the game to show what the story is about and also to help you get a vage idea what is happening in the game. They also happen when you get to a key point in the game i.e. when you have completed a critical level in the game.

Film Trailers

Film trailers are shown on website so people may preveiw the movie. There may be problems with this though because some vidios will buffer which means the speed of download may take a long time, you may get over this with constrants quantity which will give you choice of varibal bit-rate.

The Seeker website

This website does not have as much PNG32 as the Narnia website, but it has a movie which can be easily created in flash it also has good visual feedback on the movie its self and also on the site.
You can tell were the PNG32 is on the page and its on the Celtic cross and also on the bullet points.

Narnia Website

on this website the are a number of graphics which have used PNG 32 format, you can tell this because when the page loads all the graphics, fade on to the page. This is because the graphics are transparent so when loading on to the page you can see the background around the image instead of white space.

what is CGI

CGI is a common gateway interface which is a specification for transferring information between the world wide web and a CGI program. A CGI program is any program which is designed to accept and return data that confirms to the CGI specification. The program could be written in any programming language. CGI programs are the most common way for web servers to interact dynamical with any user. Many HTML pages that contain forms use a CGI program because it processes the forms data first.
